Gone With The Wind DVD
Gone With The Wind is an instant classic. Thousands of people own the wonderful Gone With The Wind DVD and you can too. Gone With the Wind was originally produced in 1939. It's all star cast included Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. Vivien Leigh played as Scarlett O'Hara and Clark Cable played as the masculine Rhett Butler. This romantic story has had fans obsessing over it since it was first filmed.
Gone With the Wind happens in Atlanta Georgia during the Civil War and the rebuilding of the city. Scarlett plays a rich teenage girl that gets everything she wants. She lives on a plantation called Tara. Over the dozen or so years that the film follows her, we see that her social and economic status disappears by changes that are out of her control. Many others cannot survive these changes but Scarlett does and her spirit is not broken.
The story is so romantic and different from our daily lives that it helps fans escape their only reality for awhile and think about what it would be like to be in her shoes. Her circumstances are hard to imagine and would be terrible to experience. It's hard not to watch what happens next at each turn. Some people dislike Scarlets character because she is too into herself. At first it may seem this way but as you watch the movie you realize that there is much more to her then that. She is a much more interesting character then some perfect heroine.
Some people also dislike the fact that the movie shows slavery in a very neutral light. They also treat their black characters like they are not very important. Many are upset that the new Gone With The Wind DVD does not address these ethnic biases. The film was made a long time ago when things were very different but that is no excuse for the DVD to be missing any sort of explanation or apology in the extra section.
